Research into vision and eye disease has become very strong in Liverpool with the close team-work of our University scientists and St Paul's clinicians. The range of research that has been undertaken here has grown to a stage where it has now been registered as a programme with the Department of Health and rated as "strong". New purpose-built clinical laboratories now allow us to focus strongly on our areas of national and international research.

Each of the supported research areas involves collaborations with teams of researchers within the UK and abroad and has produced major benefits for the understanding of disease and prevention of visual disability in patients.
