Roy Mapstone Prize
At the core of St Paul's teaching activities is its Postgraduate Teaching Programme in Ophthalmology, aimed at both trainee and qualified ophthalmologists. The Programme takes place each Wednesday afternoon and comprises case and research presentations, problem-solving sessions, invited expert lectures and audit. One of the highlights of each year's Teaching Programme is the research prize, to honour the memory of Mr Roy Mapstone. Roy Mapstone was a Consultant Ophthalmologist at St Paul's Eye Hospital and a specialist in glaucoma. He was a keen exponent of our clinicians further enhancing patient care by conducting scientific research into the conditions they were seeing in clinics. It is this research that St Paul's Eye Appeal strives to support.
The Eye Ball 2004
The event, organised by the Appeal's very own Lindy Gee, provided the perfect recipe of good food, plenty of wine, live music and a wide variety of hits to dance the night away. The event is very well supported each year. It enables everyone to get together and have a great night out for a worthy cause. On the night raffle tickets were sold for a variety of prizes including a colour TV kindly donated by Costco. Prizes of this kind ensure that people dig that little deeper when buying raffle tickets. As a result the raffle made over £500 alone. A big thank you goes to everyone who supported the evening. If you would like further information on the next Eye Ball, please phone Lindy Gee on 0151 706 4291. Bertha Maliczewski
The energetic fundraiser from Aston-in-Makerfield was so grateful for the support and care she has received from the staff of St Paul's Eye Unit that she took it upon herself to raise money. Through the fantastic support of her friends and local businesses she was delighted to have raised so much money. We are very grateful to Bertha and her friends for the tremendous support they have given to St Paul's. Support like this enables us to continue our research programme into reducing the number of people who suffer from common eye diseases. Damian Farnell
