Photo of Mike Briggs. On the 23rd April 2006, Mike Briggs, Consultant Ophthalmologist at St Paul's Eye Unit, took part in the London marathon.

Mike, who joined St Paul's in 2001, ran the gruelling 26 mile race to raise funds for St Paul's Eye Appeal. These funds will help research new treatments to prevent the commonest causes of blindness.

Mike is one of the team of 14 consultants based at St Paul's who treat around 90,000 people with vision problems each year.

Mike clocked up an impressive 60 miles a week running in training for the race and will also be running in this year's Liverpool half marathon with a target time of 90 minutes.

Mike Briggs:

"I enjoyed running the London marathon and helping to raise some much needed funds for the work we do at St Paul's Eye Unit.

The training and the marathon itself proved to be difficult as you might expect, but the generosity and support of patients and colleagues at St Paul's helped spur me on to do all I could to help the charity.

Best wishes,

Mike."
